Deportation Defense

Deportation - whether involving a friend, a relative or even yourself - can have irreparable consequences for you and your family. Often, however, foreign nationals are eligible to remain lawfully in the United States, but are deported before they have the opportunity to establish their right to remain in the United States.

If you or a loved one has been issued a Notice to Appear (NTA) or is currently in ICE custody, please contact this office immediately, as we may be able to help determine if there is any relief that could prevent you or your loved one from being permanently removed from the United States. Ana C. Zigel, Esq. has nearly 25 years of immigration law experience, including accompanying foreign nationals to their immigration court proceedings.

Waivers for Fraud and Other Criminal Convictions

Criminal convictions – even convictions for crimes committed outside of the United States – can threaten a person’s immigration status even after entry into the United States. Often, foreign nationals do not even discover the consequences of an earlier criminal conviction until they apply for a change in immigration status.  Every foreign national who has had any contact with the police or with a criminal court should consult with an experienced immigration attorney prior to filing any immigration applications. The Law Office of Ana C. Zigel has extensive experience helping foreign nationals mitigate some of the immigration consequences of past criminal activities. Ana has even taught Maryland defense attorneys how to represent foreign nationals in their criminal matters.

While foreign nationals cannot waive the commission of an aggravated felony, relief may be available in some circumstances for foreign nationals convicted of some drug related offenses, some fraud offenses, and other offenses. If you are a foreign national who has been convicted of a crime, it is very important that you consult an experienced immigration attorney before applying for immigration benefits.  Please bring copies of your court disposition with you to your meeting with Ana C. Zigel, Esq.
